Sharon Osbourne Faces Backlash Over Alcohol Brand Tied to Ozzy’s History
RadarOnline.com reports Sharon Osbourne is facing backlash from fans and addiction recovery supporters after taking steps to launch an alcohol brand honoring her late husband, Ozzy Osbourne, despite his long and very public struggles with substance abuse.
Court documents show the 73-year-old has filed to trademark Back To The Beginning, the name of Ozzy’s farewell concert held in Birmingham last year, shortly before he died at age 76 following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Alcohol Brand Tied to Ozzy’s Final Show
The trademark application, submitted through the Osbourne family company Monowise Ltd., includes alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and spirits, along with merchandise like clothing and caps.
Ozzy passed away from a heart attack in July, only months after reuniting with his Black Sabbath bandmates for a charity performance at Villa Park. The concert raised millions for causes close to his heart, including Acorns Children’s Hospice, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Cure Parkinson’s.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019, the legendary rocker frequently spoke about the condition as an ongoing, exhausting struggle.
Fans Condemn the Move as Insensitive
Critics argue that linking Ozzy’s legacy to alcohol is inappropriate given his decades-long fight with addiction. One family insider described the decision as disturbing, saying it feels like profiting from the pain Ozzy endured during his darkest years.
Another critic accused Sharon of exploiting her husband’s memory, calling the move a blatant cash grab.
Ozzy’s Troubled Past with Addiction
Ozzy was open about his history as a severe alcoholic and drug user throughout his career with Black Sabbath and as a solo artist. He once admitted to extreme drinking binges and acknowledged the damage his substance abuse caused to his health, work, and marriage.
Friends have said his drinking often led to violent behavior and chaotic disappearances, putting enormous strain on his relationship with Sharon. The couple, who married in 1982, never hid the volatility of their early years together.
Sharon has previously revealed that during one alcohol-fueled episode, Ozzy nearly killed her, an incident that resulted in his arrest and a period of mandatory sobriety.
Mixed Reactions from Industry and Fans
Some industry figures have defended Sharon, suggesting the brand could be seen as an unfiltered reflection of Ozzy’s life rather than an endorsement of addiction. One insider said it may represent an attempt to reclaim his troubled past rather than glorify it.
Even so, public reaction has largely been negative, with online commenters labeling the idea offensive, poorly judged, and harmful to those in recovery.
A former roadie summed up the sentiment by saying that while Ozzy might have joked about it, selling alcohol under his name feels wrong given how hard he fought to overcome his addiction.
Throughout his life, Ozzy often credited Sharon with saving him from himself, recalling how she intervened to prevent reckless behavior during his drinking years.
