Well-Deserved Win

Elton John’s 2019 musical fantasy biopic “Rocketman” bagged two wins from last night’s 77th Golden Globes ceremony. Taron Egerton won Best Performance by an Actor Motion Picture ā€“ Musical or Comedy and soundtrack “Iā€™m Gonna Love Me Again” written by John and longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin took home Best Original Song ā€“ Motion Picture. It was the only new track penned for the movie and also the only one to feature Elton John’s vocals along with Egerton.

The film also received a third nomination for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy but Rocketman lost to Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

Ahead of the ceremony, Elton John posted a photo of him and Taron Egerton at BAFTA’s Tea Party. He captioned it with, “So happy that Taron has received nominations for both the @goldenglobes and @sagawards for his transcendent performance in @rocketmanmovie. He put his heart and soul into the role, acting and singing brilliantly. He showed boundless talent and courage and Iā€™m so proud of him.”

During his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, Egerton said: “This role has changed my life, it’s been the best experience of my life, it’s been such a joyous thing.” He then added: “To Elton John, thank you for the music, thank you for living a life less ordinary, and thank you for being my friend.”
