Pink Floyd “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” Live Performance

Pink Floyd “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” Live Performance | Society Of Rock Videos

This performance gives me CHILLS! 20 years after Pink Floyd came out with their hit album Wish You Were Here,  they perform one of their greatest and most loved hits to date and don’t miss a beat.

The album was a homage to Barrett, one of the bands founders (also credited to naming the band), who left the band due to drug abuse and mental illness just three years after the band formed. Shine On You Crazy Diamond was also a tribute to their troubled bandmate.

In 1974 the work was first performed on their French Summer Tour. I would give anything to go back in time to that show… the set list was INCREDIBLE! Speak to Me, Brain Damage, Time, and Us and Them!? Someone needs to invent a time travel capsule already, right? I know I wouldn’t be the only one to head back. The song originally set to be a side-long composition was later split into two parts; to begin and end the album. So sit back, relax and head back to yesteryear with me and indulge in the greatness of Pink Floyd. Enjoy!!!

<<LYRICS>>
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there’s a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine! You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
