Dee Snider tweeted about the highly-publicized Bud Light controversy, where he humorously expressed his unexpected craving for a Bud Light despite not being a beer drinker.
Snider’s tweet was prompted by the news of anti-LGBTQ+ politician Ron DeSantis joining the chorus of criticism against Bud Light, adding an interesting perspective to the ongoing backlash. The Bud Light boycott was initiated after the company gifted a few beers to influencer Dylan Mulvaney earlier this month.
Mulvaney, a transgender woman, posted a video of herself dressed as a character inspired by Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s as she celebrated March Madness and reflected on her first year of embracing her true gender identity.
In the video, Mulvaney also showcased a can with her image on it as part of a paid sponsorship and promotion for a sweepstakes challenge by Bud Light, where participants have a chance to win $15,000.
Regrettably, the alliance between Bud Light and Mulvaney has sparked a wave of backlash from those who feel that the world is becoming overly “woke.” Notable personalities such as Kid Rock and Travis Tritt have joined the fray, with the former even taking shots at cans of the beer and the latter banning the brand from his tour.
Snider’s Witty Response
As a consequence, many on the right have called for a boycott of the best-selling beer in the country. Snider responded to DeSantis’ tweet with a sharp retort, exposing the politician’s hypocritical stance on the matter.
DeSantis had claimed that Bud Light lost a customer, but Snider pointed out that DeSantis doesn’t even drink the beer. Snider then took a jab at DeSantis by revealing that the politician preferred Guinness, a company that has been advertising to the LGBTQ+ community for years, despite DeSantis’ contradictory stance.
The frontman of Twisted Sister employed wit and sarcasm to assert his stance in the Bud Light controversy. Snider employed clever communication to express his support for both the brand and the LGBTQ+ community, even though he doesn’t personally consume beer.
His remark can be interpreted as a playful dismissal of critics, showcasing his resolute stance against their boycott calls. This highlights his appreciation for inclusivity and recognition of Bud Light’s support for a transgender influencer.
In response to the controversy, Snider humorously commented:
“Oddly, I have never drank beer, but lately, I’ve been hankering for a Bud Light!'”
