Dee Snider Breaks Silence After Twisted Sister Reunion Is Canceled
Dee Snider has broken his silence following the cancellation of Twisted Sister’s planned 2026 reunion tour, offering fans an unusually candid glimpse into both his health struggles and a profound personal experience that he says reshaped his perspective.
Posting on X, Snider shared a video message accompanied by a brief note thanking fans for their concern. “I thank you all for your love and concern. If you want to really understand what I’m going through, watch this,” he wrote.
A Surreal and Personal Revelation
In the video, Snider recounts an experience he describes as intensely vivid and difficult to explain. He emphasizes that it was not auditory in nature, but instead communicated through images and sensations.
“It’s whatever it is there. It doesn’t talk. You don’t hear voices. It shows you images, and I guess it’s telepathic,” Snider said. He compared the early stages to the familiar childhood sensation of lying in the sun with closed eyes and watching colors and patterns flicker across one’s vision. From there, he explained, the experience deepened.
What began as something he felt he was watching gradually became immersive. “It was like a dream. It was projected in front of me. It was very psychedelic, for lack of a better word, and it was incorporating things that I like,” he explained. “In retrospect, analyzing, I realized it went from being a screen in front of me that I was watching to me being enveloped.”
At a certain point, the imagery shifted abruptly. “It changed and it went dark. I realized I was on an operating table,” Snider said.
Confronting Memory, Love, and Loss
The episode intensified as Snider described finding himself in a dark space surrounded by what he called biomechanical machinery. “I was in a black room. Machinery itself, I wouldn’t call it industrial. I’d call it biomechanical. It was above me and around me. It got closer,” he said.
From there, the experience moved through moments from his life, including a powerful connection with his wife. Snider said it affirmed their relationship and overwhelmed him emotionally. “It confirmed, yes, this is meant to be… there was a lot of tears in this experience.”
The most striking moment came when he encountered an image of his late father. “My father rose out of the mist,” Snider said, reflecting on a relationship that has long informed his songwriting. “I have had major issues with my dad all of my music, all of my… He was my muse. My hatred for him, it was so eye-opening, so inspirational. It explained to me…”
Though he left the thought unfinished, the implication was clear: the experience forced a reckoning with emotions that had shaped his art for decades.
Health, Hard Choices, and an Uncompromising Standard
Snider’s message marked his first public statement since the band announced the cancellation of its highly anticipated reunion and 50th anniversary shows. According to Fox News, the singer has been dealing with degenerative arthritis and heart problems, conditions he attributes to a “lifetime of legendarily aggressive performing.”
The now-scrapped tour was scheduled to begin on April 25 in São Paulo and was meant to celebrate five decades of Twisted Sister’s career. The Los Angeles Times reported that Snider stepped away due to a series of mounting health challenges, casting uncertainty over the band’s future.
Despite the circumstances, Snider has made it clear that he refuses to compromise when it comes to performance. “I don’t know of any other way to rock,” he has said. “The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I’d rather walk away than be a shadow of my former self.”
That philosophy ultimately explains the tour’s cancellation as much as any medical diagnosis. Rather than offering fans a diminished version of the band, Snider chose absence over compromise. In doing so, he reinforced a legacy built not just on volume and attitude, but on conviction. The canceled shows may leave a gap in Twisted Sister’s live history, but they also underscore a career defined by all-or-nothing commitment—a standard Snider appears unwilling, and perhaps unable, to abandon.
