A Birthday Tribute From Alex
Alex Van Halen shared a rare home video to mark what would have been Eddie Van Halen’s 71st birthday. The clip shows Eddie as a young boy, already focused on playing guitar. Though the footage has no sound, his energy and early love for music are clear.
At one moment, the camera turns briefly to a young Alex, who smiles widely. The short scene adds a personal touch, showing the brothers together long before they became famous in rock history.
A Message From Family
Alongside the video, Alex included a message from his nephew Wolfgang Van Halen. It read, “Al, you and dad changed the world of music.” The post drew attention from close family members.
Wolfgang reacted in the comments with three red heart emojis. His mother, Valerie Bertinelli, also responded, leaving a single white heart. The simple replies showed quiet support and remembrance on a meaningful day.

New Projects in the Works
Earlier this month, Alex said he is working on a new album with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather. The project is expected to include music Eddie wrote and recorded before his death in 2020.
Alex also shared that he is preparing a new Van Halen anthology book set for release this year. The book follows his 2024 memoir, Brothers. The video gives fans a small but touching look at where Eddie’s love for guitar first began.
