Canadian Legends Return to the American Stage
Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, the founding members of The Guess Who, are bringing their music back to the United States after more than two decades. The duo, who wrote hits such as “American Woman,” will headline a U.S. tour this summer following their announced Canadian dates.
“Randy and I are getting this incredible welcome back feeling,” Cummings told The Associated Press. “It’s magic to play the hit records and see people singing along after decades and decades.” Fans can expect the band to kick off the tour on June 25 in Minneapolis, before traveling to cities including Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, Atlantic City, Boston, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Seattle.
Legal Battles and the Right to Perform
Bachman and Cummings last toured the United States as The Guess Who in 2001, performing alongside Joe Cocker. The long gap since then was partly due to a trademark dispute over the band’s name with former members. That issue was resolved in September 2024, granting Bachman and Cummings full rights to The Guess Who name.
“I’m glad that’s all over with,” Cummings said. “Now we can go out and honor the songs. We’re going out to honor the music.” With the legal matters behind them, the pair can finally focus on performing their classic hits for audiences in both Canada and the U.S.

Celebrating a Canadian Classic Rock Legacy
The Guess Who were among Canada’s most influential classic rock acts during the 1960s and 1970s, producing memorable tracks such as “These Eyes,” “Hand Me Down World,” “Laughing,” “No Time,” and “Share the Land.” They were also the first Canadian band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making their mark on the international music scene.
Fans can expect the summer tour setlist to include roughly 20 songs, all performed as they were originally recorded. “That’s what people want to hear,” Bachman said. “When I go see my buddy Neil Young, I don’t want the songs he wrote last week.” Cummings added that these songs act as markers in people’s lives. “I can remember the first time I heard Elvis on the radio, the first time I ever heard the Beatles, first time when I heard Ray Charles sing ‘What’d I Say,’” he said. “Really great records never leave people’s memories. They’re there for good.”
Rock Music in the Age of AI
Both musicians have noted that the live performance of classic rock songs carries a different energy in today’s era of AI-generated music. “Anybody can now write a song, put it in a computer and a song comes out. But they can’t play it live,” Bachman said. “The people want to see you playing real rock. They want to hear a mistake. They want to see a string break.”
Cummings agreed, emphasizing that music connects people across time. Their upcoming U.S. tour promises to deliver the authentic sound and energy that made The Guess Who a defining band of classic rock, offering fans a chance to experience the original hits as they were meant to be heard.
