We had the immense pleasure and privilege of watching a group of elders as they react to footage of Elvis Presley – the King of Rock and Roll. When Elvis debuted in 1954, the men and women watching this video were pre-teens and teenagers who grew up on the standards; Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett. When Elvis and his magic pelvis came shimmying into our collective conscious, our lives were changed – forever!
What I love about this video is how everyone comes alive the second they see Elvis! Suddenly, they’re transformed into giggling teenagers without a care in the world and for a brief moment see the world as they did as children.
This is definitely a fantastic glimpse into the early days of rock and roll – without Elvis, rock and roll wouldn’t have evolved into what it is!
