Cliff Williams worked his magic as the bass player of Australian rock outfit AC/DC. Like every other rock band, his basslines are integral to the band’s overall sound. He may be underrated and often overlooked but he’s a phenomenal bassist.

YouTube channel How To Bass breaks down the reasons why AC/DC wouldn’t be the same without Cliff Williams. Watch his analysis below.

In a new interview with Guitar World, Williams opened up about his bass playing. He said, “I don’t think it’s changed much. I just try and do my bit as best I can. If anything, it’s a little simpler. I try to bring it down to what it needs.”

He also explained how he managed to come up with his style, “It just developed, from playing with the guys, and with the songs that we play. he songs are very guitar- and chorus-driven, so I don’t need to be noodling around underneath. I just need to be playing the framework, and driving it as part of the rhythm section. That’s how I’ve always approached it, and it’s just developed over the years to where it is now.”

He further admitted that he varies his bass parts a bit during their live performances.
