And He Flopped
Elton John and actor Michael Caine both star in a new public service announcement for Britain’s National Heath Service that encourages people to have themselves vaccinated against COVID-19, highlighting on the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. The short clip shows Elton John auditioning for the spot but somehow failing to impress the director. He already struggles with the introduction with the director asking him to be “a little less showbiz” or “a bit more showbiz”.
He then pretends to getting a shot from a nurse and well, it’s pretty funny. In a desperate attempt to land the role, John goes on and sings his 1983 classic hit “I’m Still Standing.”
But for all his efforts, the director simply tells him: “Wow, OK. Thanks, Elton, we’ll let you know.” And John replies, “At this short notice, you won’t find anyone bigger.”
Elton John does a Michael Caine impression but of course, the latter ends up winning the role who simply said: “I’ve just had a vaccine for Covid. It didn’t hurt. Not many people know that.”
This 90-second PSA was organized by Lord Ara Darzi who also heads the Imperial REACT COVID Surveillance Study Group. Both Elton John and Michael Caine have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
