AC/DC guitarist Stevie Young—who stepped in for his uncle Malcolm Young in 2014—has been hospitalized following a recent performance in South America.

A spokesperson confirmed that, “out of an abundance of caution,” Young was admitted to a hospital in Buenos Aires, where he is currently undergoing a full series of medical tests. Despite the situation, he is said to be in good condition and maintaining a positive outlook, with hopes of returning to the stage as early as Monday.

The band recently performed in Santiago, Chile, and is scheduled to begin a three-night run in Buenos Aires on March 23. Their last appearance in the Argentine capital was in 2009.

Stevie Young’s Role in AC/DC

Now 69, Stevie Young officially joined AC/DC in 2014 following Malcolm Young’s dementia diagnosis. However, his connection to the band dates back earlier—he filled in for Malcolm during a U.S. tour in 1988.

He contributed to the band’s 2014 album Rock or Bust but was only formally recognized as a full member later that year. Malcolm Young passed away in 2017.

Since joining, Stevie has performed on the Rock or Bust World Tour (2015–2016) and is currently part of the ongoing Power Up Tour, which launched in 2024.

Upcoming 2026 Tour Dates

After completing their South American shows this spring, AC/DC will head to North America for the next leg of the Power Up Tour beginning in July.

The run opens on July 11 in Charlotte, North Carolina, before moving through major cities including Denver, Vancouver, Houston, and Toronto, and concluding on September 29 in Philadelphia. The upcoming stretch not only reinforces the band’s enduring global draw but also serves as a testament to their resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.

With decades into their career, AC/DC continue to operate at a scale few of their contemporaries can match, and the success of the Power Up Tour suggests their appeal remains as powerful as ever. Much will depend on Stevie Young’s recovery in the immediate term, but if recent performances are any indication, the band shows little sign of slowing down—continuing to carry forward the legacy they helped define.
