John 5 Reveals Some Bad News About Mötley Crüe
Guitarist John 5 recently spoke about the uncertain recording future of Mötley Crüe, revealing that no concrete plans for a new album have been set. In an interview with EON Music, the guitarist addressed questions about whether the veteran rock band might release new material following their current touring commitments.
The band most recently issued the single Dogs of War in 2024 after signing with Big Machine Records, sparking speculation that a larger project could follow. However, John 5 indicated that the band’s immediate focus remains on touring rather than recording.
When asked directly whether fans should expect a new album from the group, he admitted that the band’s plans beyond their current schedule remain unclear.
“I don’t know. I don’t know what’s going to happen after the tour,” he said. “I don’t know what’s planned. I have no idea, but I just love being a part of it.”
Focus Remains on Touring
John 5 emphasized that while he is committed to the band, he is not involved in long-term strategic decisions. According to the guitarist, any updates about future projects typically come from the band’s leadership.
“So they just let me know what’s going to happen, but right now, there’s nothing planned, unfortunately,” he added.
The uncertainty comes during a notable period for the group. Recently, bassist Nikki Sixx revealed that the band’s current contract will expire after their 2026 U.S. tour. He also mentioned that the group intends to take “real time off” in 2027 to reassess their next steps, suggesting that the band could use that break to determine their long-term direction.
Anniversary Tour Takes Priority
For now, the band’s attention is firmly on the road. The group has announced The Return of the Carnival of Sins, a large-scale 2026 North American tour commemorating two milestones: the 20th anniversary of their original Carnival of Sins Tour 2005–2006 and the band’s 45th anniversary.
The 33-date run represents a major undertaking and may explain why recording plans have yet to be finalized. Reports also suggest the band could take a break from touring after the 2026 schedule concludes, leaving their future beyond that point largely undecided.
With their anniversary celebrations approaching and contractual obligations nearing their end, Mötley Crüe appears to be approaching a pivotal moment in its long career. Any decisions regarding new albums, additional tours, or the band’s long-term future will likely come once the current touring cycle has wrapped up.
