Gil Moore Says A New Triumph Album Might Still Happen
Triumph drummer Gil Moore recently spoke about the possibility of the band creating new music, responding to fan curiosity during an appearance on the Rock Interview Series. The conversation centered on whether the Canadian rock veterans might record fresh material while preparing for their upcoming “Rock n’ Roll Machine Reloaded Tour.”
Moore Keeps the Possibility of New Songs Alive
When asked if Triumph might consider returning to the studio, Moore did not rule out the idea. Instead, he suggested that the band is keeping its options open, much like they did when deciding to return to touring after many years.
“Well, like I almost, you know, I said no to the tour for so long and then finally said yes. So this is one I just sort of leaves the door open like these stepping stones that I mentioned to you previously,” Moore said. “I mean they weren’t planned as much as they kind of fell together just you know with serendipity or whatever happen stance. So I think the same thing about new music.”
Creative Chemistry Could Spark Studio Sessions
Moore also pointed out that Triumph has easy access to recording facilities should inspiration strike while the band is on the road. He mentioned the band’s MetalWorks studio complex as a potential place where new ideas could quickly be developed into songs.
“I mean if we get out there on the road and all of a sudden someone has an idea for a song. I mean, you know, Metal Works has a huge recording studio complex here. We can record to our hearts delight if we if we want to do it,” he continued. “So, I think we just wait and see, you know, how it goes. But, you know, I’d like to hear Rick and Phil write together, you know, the two guitar like the two guitar thing is really I know I’m looking forward to it.”
Moore also spoke enthusiastically about the musical chemistry between guitarist Rik Emmett and Phil X, noting the mutual respect they share for each other’s playing.
“I know those guys are too. Because they have tremendous respect for each other’s guitar playing ability and yeah, I think that would be sort of an interesting combination you know in the kitchen with those two chefs and I would certainly want to be in there myself,” Moore added.
A Historic Return to the Stage
The discussion about potential new material comes as Triumph prepares for one of the most significant moments in its modern history. The Rock n’ Roll Machine Reloaded Tour will celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary and begins on April 22, 2026, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, before running through June 6 in Boston. The trek marks the band’s first full-scale touring run in more than three decades, following their last major tour in 1993.
For this return, the classic trio of Moore, Emmett, and bassist Mike Levine will be joined by guitarist Phil X—currently a member of Bon Jovi and a former Triumph guitarist—along with Todd Kerns (bass/vocals) and Brent Fitz (drums/keyboards), both known for their work with Slash.
The expanded lineup aims to recreate the band’s layered studio sound onstage, effectively forming what Moore has described as a “six-man power trio.” With additional musicians supporting the original members, the group hopes to deliver the full scope of Triumph’s classic arrangements in a live environment.
The announcement has sparked strong enthusiasm among longtime fans who have waited decades to see the band perform again. Moore’s willingness to consider new music only adds to the anticipation surrounding the reunion, leaving open the possibility that Triumph’s long-awaited return could lead not only to a tour, but perhaps to new songs as well.
