The Polyphonic Spree
Meet The Polyphonic Spree, a talented, choral rock Texas- based band with quite the get up “uniformed” apparel as they cover Neil Young’s “Heart Of Gold” on the A.V. Club’s Undercover, Series 3. As they are invited into the club’s “little, round room” they are asked to choose a song from the 25 that are listed.
Interesting Fact: Young wrote this in 1971 after he suffered a back injury that made it difficult for him to play the electric guitar, so on the Harvest tracks he played acoustic.
With instruments like the mandolin, trombone, cello, and keyboard, this extremely talented band does this beautiful classic some serious justice vocally and technically. Lead vocalist of the group, Tim DeLaughter is absolutely stunning matched with his background singers that really capture Neil Young’s fresh take on this timeless song.
We hope you enjoy this amazing and seriously beautiful cover of Neil’s best!
+ Heart Of Gold Lyrics +
I want to live,
I want to give
I’ve been a miner
For a heart of gold
It’s these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching
For a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
Keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
I’ve been to Hollywood
I’ve been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean
For a heart of gold
I’ve been in my mind,
It’s such a fine line
That keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
Keeps me searching
For a heart of gold
And I’m getting old
Keep me searching
For a heart of gold
You keep me searching
And I’m growing old
Keep me searching
For a heart of gold
I’ve been a miner
For a heart of gold
