It Only Took 13 Little Words To Mend A 20-Year Rift

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler has got a pretty fantastic résumé: rockstar, country singer, and now…mediator? This week, it was revealed during an episode of The Howard Stern Show that Steven had a huge hand in the mending of the 20 year rift between Guns N’ Roses alumni Axl Rose and Slash and subsequently, the band’s hotly anticipated 2016 reunion. Tyler, who himself is no stranger to broken bands due to internal turmoil, spoke of his rift with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and the 13 little words that changed everything:

“I said, ‘You need to get back together again soon, because we all miss you,'” says the Aerosmith singer, who’s reportedly been working on the Guns N’ Roses reunion for years.

Tyler went on to say,

“There’s a place and time, where if you don’t [reunite], you’re gonna miss it and in another four or five years, no one’s even gonna know who they were or care if they were on tour.” He added: “Guns N’ Roses had something to do with the fabric of humans on this planet.”

Rumors of an impending Appetite For Destruction-era Guns N’ Roses reunion reached a fever pitch when news broke late last summer that Slash and Axl Rose were on speaking terms and had moved past the turmoil that ended their friendship two decades ago, following hot on the heels of the departure of former Guns N’ Roses guitarists DJ Ashba and Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal.

In January 2016, it was officially announced that the reunion would take place, featuring bassist Duff McKagan, beginning with two gigs at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on April 8th and 9th and ultimately, Guns N’ Roses’ highly anticipated headlining set at Coachella. No word yet as to whether fellow Appetite alumni Steven Adler and Izzy Stradlin will participate, but thanks to good guy Steven Tyler, we’ve at least got Slash, Axl, and Duff to look forward to!
