She’s Got Diamonds…
Paul Simon very bravely entered Africa in 1987 on his Graceland Mission: The South Africa Tour to rebel against segregation once and for all.
Backed by an inspirational group of synchronized African American men, he gracefully serenaded the first multi- cultural concert during the Apartheid to “Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes.”
“People say she’s crazy, she got diamonds on the soles of her shoes. Well that’s one way to lose these walking blues.”
As shots of the crowd are shown in this video, you see people of all colors and cultures blending into one another all to appreciate great music and, of course, a great cause.
Fun Fact: Ladysmith Black Mambazo sing in Zulu on this track. Their refrain roughly translates to: “It’s not usual but in our days we see those things happen. They are women, they can take care of themselves.”
We respect and admire Paul Simon for this tour, for the music and for the justice he brought to this country in such raw and horrible times…
