An Unforgettable Performance

At the 92nd Annual Academy Awards held on February 9 at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Hollywood, Elton John performed “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from his 2019 biopic “Rocketman.” It won Best Original Song during this year’s Grammy Awards.

It’s the only new composition for “Rocketman” – written by Elton John and longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin. Most of the other songs are Elton John classic hits. Wearing a purple tuxedo, he wowed the audience as he played on the bright red piano. You can check out the entire performance below.

A few minutes later, Elton John bagged the Oscars for Best Original Song. It’s his second win – the first one was in 1995 with co-writer Tim Rice for The Lion King’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”.

They bested Randy Newman’s “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away” (Toy Story 4), Diane Warren’s “I’m Standing With You” (Breakthrough), Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez’s “Into The Unknown” (Frozen II), and Joshuah Brian Campbell and Cynthia Erivo’s “Stand Up” (Harriet).

It came as a surprise that “Rocketman” only received one Oscar nomination especially since almost everyone expected Taron Egerton to bring home the Best Actor award, after previously winning the Golden Globes.
