Boston performed at Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario on July 12, 1988. One of the songs they played was Hitch A Ride from their eponymous debut studio album. It was also included in the six-song demo tape Tom Scholz and his wife sent out to record companies. Originally titled San Francisco Day, Scholz wrote it and played it with his previous bands before reworking the song for Boston.
As with the rest of the songs on the Boston record, this received a fair amount of airplay that contributed to the LP’s success. It was one of the most stunning debuts of all time. It had no filler and every song is spectacular. Thus, it’s no wonder why all eight songs eventually achieved classic status.
The studio recording of Hitch A Ride is absolutely magical but check out Boston’s live performance below and prepare to be blown away because it’s just as amazing. From the guitar solo to Brad Delp’s vocals, it’s hands-down one of the greatest versions we’ve ever heard. This gig was truly one for the books. They brought the house down and basically showed everyone how it’s done.
