Before Van Halen took over the world with their Southern California, brash approach to rock and roll, the boys got their start as a cover band, covering the music of their youths that made them want to play music in the first place. This mega rare, newly released recording features Van Halen’s 1976 performance of The Kinks’ ‘All Day And All Of The Night’, proving that there’s quite literally nothing they couldn’t do!
Fun Fact: When Van Halen struggled to find gigs, they’d play anywhere – backyard parties and even on a flatbed truck!
Listening to the chunky sound of Eddie Van Halen’s guitar so early in the band’s career is a fantastic blast from the past; he shows off the power chord riff that no doubt influenced him as a teenager listening to The Kinks, but his playing is clean enough to remind you that he’s capable of so much more. David Lee Roth, though early in his career as a rock frontman, shows all the makings of the huge stage presence that would define him throughout the 80s, and while there’s no video of this performance, we have no doubt that the crowd had a fantastic time that night!
