Return to the Stage
Canadian rock band Triumph is reuniting for a rare performance during Game 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals on Friday night in Edmonton. The group will play a short three-song set alongside the Glorious Sons, just outside the arena before the game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers.
The band’s 1979 hit “Lay It on the Line” has been featured in commercials during the NHL playoffs this year, promoted by Rogers, a major Canadian cable company. The performance adds excitement to the Finals, especially since no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup since 1993, when the Montreal Canadiens beat the Los Angeles Kings.

First Time in Years
Triumph’s last full public concert took place on July 11, 2008, at the Rocklahoma Festival. In 2019, the band played three songs for a small group of fans during filming for the 2021 documentary Triumph: Rock and Roll Machine. That mini-set marked the last time they played together before now.
In 2020, bassist Mike Levine explained to fans that a full tour was unlikely. “The answer is probably not. But you never say never because you don’t know,” he said in a WRIF interview. “I think we’re all getting on in years a little bit; there’s some physical issues that may just not make that possible. Playing three songs, that’s okay, we can do that. But playing a dozen songs, I’m not sure that would work on a big stage, because we’d all probably fall off the stage or something stupid.”
Tribute Album Release
Friday also marks the debut of Magic Power: All-Star Tribute to Triumph, featuring popular Triumph songs covered by artists like Sebastian Bach, Nancy Wilson, and Alex Lifeson’s Envy of None.
