Black Sabbath founding member and guitar legend Tony Iommi teamed up with Gibson to launch a brand new electric guitar, the Tony Iommi SG Special. The signature model is already available and it’s based on Iommi’s iconic 1964 Gibson SG Special, nicknamed “Monkey.” This particular instrument was crucial to Black Sabbath’s sound and heavy metal in general as it helped create Iommi’s massive tone.

Gibson recreated the original perfectly including its deep vintage cherry finish. It comes in left and right-handed variants, and features a mahogany body, bound mahogany neck, Indian rosewood fretboard with 22 frets, a Graph Tech nut, Grover Rotomatic tuners and chrome-covered P-90 pickups. And yes, it has Iommi’s Monkey sticker.

“Recently, I was invited to Nashville by Cesar Gueikian and JC Curleigh, who I must tell you are so enthusiastic and passionate,” Iommi said in a statement. “I had the opportunity to go to the Gibson factories, meet the people that work there, and I saw how dedicated they all are to the craft. There’s no stopping Gibson, which is great for all of us guitar players and I am pleased to now be able to share this SG guitar with a wide audience.”

The Gibson Tony Iommi SG Special is priced at $2,399.00 and is available via Gibson and Reverb.
