It all began with Simmons’ new interview with Rolling Stone where he discussed Roth’s performance on stage. Simmons first announced that Roth will no longer provide support on their farewell tour. Diamond Dave opened for the band before the pandemic forced live music to shut down. He was supposed to be on the rescheduled shows too.
“It bears noting that during Dave’s heyday, nobody did what he did,” Simmons said. “He was the ultimate frontman. Not Plant, not Rod Stewart, nobody. He took being a frontman way beyond anything.”
“And then, I don’t know what happened to him… something. And you get modern-day Dave,” he continued. “I prefer to remember Elvis Presley in his prime. Sneering lips, back in Memphis, you know, doing all that. I don’t want to think of bloated naked Elvis on the bathroom floor.”
Aside from resuming their tour, KISS also announced their Las Vegas residency at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood.
