The Croation Who

If you have not been introduced, this is Gruhak, a killer Croation band that really knows how to cover The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” with serious style. Clearly English is not their first language, which makes this performance and lead singer Boris’s annunciation that much more impressive.

Interesting Fact: Pete Townshend spent a few weeks in his home studio putting together the part that sounds like a synthesizer on a Lowry organ. His goal: to create “a replication of the electronic music of the future.”

From album Who’s Next, “Baba O’Riley” came to life as a direct influence of guitarist Pete Townsend’s spiritual and philosophical views and is commonly misunderstood under the title “Teenage Wasteland.” The ballad functioned as an inspirational piece speaking of a spiritual journey two teenagers must embark on to attend a concert across a hypothetical wasteland.

With killer vocal range and pitch and great guitar and drum work to back him up, Gruhak may just be one of our favorite cover bands we have come across. We hope you enjoy it!

+ Baba O’Riley Lyrics +

Out here in the fields,
I fight for my meals,
I get my back into my living.
I don’t need to fight,
To prove I’m right,
I don’t need to be forgiven.

Don’t cry,
Don’t raise your eye,
It’s only teenage wasteland.

Sally take my hand,
We’ll travel south cross land,
Put out the fire,
And don’t look past my shoulder.
The exodus is here,
The happy ones are near,
Let’s get together, before we get much older.

Teenage wasteland,
It’s only teenage wasteland,
Teenage wasteland,
Oh yeah, teenage wasteland,
They’re all wasted!
