The commercials during the Super Bowl LV didn’t disappoint classic rock fans. From The Beatles to Bill Withers, the genre is well represented at the annual championship game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs.
First off is Budweiser which has been airing commercials for the past 37 years but for the first time since the ’80s, they redirected their advertising budget in support of COVID-19 vaccines awareness and education. Their advertisement focused on the resiliency of Americans with everyday people singing to Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me”.
The online marketplace Mercari launched a new campaign and featured The Beatles’ “Hello, Goodbye” for an advertisement showcasing “the beauty of passing unused items forward.” They wrote, “The timeless song “Hello, Goodbye’ by the Beatles fit this campaign so perfectly because it amplified the concept of passing meaningful items on for other to enjoy – one person says “goodbye” to something they love so another can say “hello” to a delightful new find.”
Michelob Ultra has a pretty simple commercial showing photos of famous athletes like Serena Williams and Peyton Manning. It also includes the iconic bass line on Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side”.
The Hollies’ “Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)” is on the commercial for Jimmy John’s. Actor Brad Garrett is apparently the “King of Cold Cuts” and well, it’s just hilarious.
Stella Artois features Lenny Kravitz who encourages viewers to “invest in each other”. An animated version of the rocker also plays his classic hit “It Ain’t Over ‘til It’s Over.”
Perhaps one of the funniest commercials is from Doritos which shows actor Matthew McConaughey and a background music of Queen’s “I Want to Break Free”. We won’t spoil it for you, just check it out and enjoy.
