Kesha Gets Raw, Real, And Glittery For Party Anthem

Written in 2009 and featured on Kesha’s 2010 platinum selling debut Animal, “Take It Off” is everything you love about the 28-year-old pop star: with its heavy autotune that sets up a deliciously upbeat electro-infused rhythm, the fourth and final single fromĀ AnimalĀ reminds us of those late nights that turned into early mornings with some of your favorite people and leaving all of your fears and inhibitions on the dance floor. It’s only fitting, then, that the music video for “Take It Off” should be nothing short of a cosmic affair – one featuring Kesha and her friends on a distant planet, dancing around in a mosh pit covered in powdered paint while slowly turning into stardust as the video progresses.

Directed by Paul Hunter and Dori Oskowitz, the video’s concept was revealed by Kesha who says that the video was about her and “all her hot vampire babe friends breaking into a hotel on another planet” and turning into glittery cosmic stardust at the end. She went on to sum up the video’s concept in a deeply introspective way by simply saying, “Once you take it all off, all your inhibitions, your clothes, we’re all made up of the same thing.”

Fun Fact: There’s a second version of the video! It features Jeffree Star and has a more dominant animal theme, with 80s themed inspiration such as Tron, David Bowie in Labyrinth, and Revenge of the Nerds.

While “Take It Off” can very easily be seen as a party song, the greatest thing about Kesha as an artist and songwriter is the fact that while songs like thisĀ are impossibly fun, they carry a profound underlying message. Whether it’s allowing yourself to be raw and real and never sacrificing your authenticity, seizing the moment or just waking up and greeting the world each day like you’re P.Diddy, there’s always a life lesson – and this is one you definitely do not want to miss!
