The Kinks, an English rock band from the mid-60s, took the world by storm with their iconic hit that we still hear often today “You Really Got Me.”

“Girl, you really got me goin’. You got me so I don’t know what I’m doin’ now. Yeah, you really got me now. You got me so I can’t sleep at night.”

Originally, when the band first recorded this song they did not particularly like it, so they did everything they could to find a loophole in their contract to re-record the song and eventually were able to achieve this.

Fun Fact: The first line was originally “You, you really got me going.” Ray Davies changed it to “Girl, you really got me going” at the suggestion of one of their advisers. The idea was to appeal to the teenage girls in their audience.

Becoming the Kinks’s first hit, “You Really Got Me” brought them the fame they were searching for and were even able to open for the Beatles at two different shows.
