John Densmore and Robby Krieger, the two surviving members of the iconic rock band the Doors, have teamed up with the nonprofit initiative Playing for Change for a new collaborative music video. The project, which unites musicians from across the globe, chose the band’s classic “Riders on the Storm” for its latest edition.

Alongside Densmore and Krieger, the performance featured Lukas Nelson and Micah Nelson — sons of Willie Nelson — Don Was, Foo Fighters’ Rami Jaffee, the Lakota Drum Group, and numerous other artists spanning genres and continents.

“Vocally, Lukas Nelson filled Jim Morrison’s leather pants quite well!” Densmore said in a statement via Consequence. “Ray [Manzarek] would be proud of the way Rami Jaffee ‘channeled’ the piano solo. Mark Johnson masterminded a beautiful video.”

Krieger added, “Seeing musicians from different cultures come together around this song means a lot. Playing for Change is doing important work to unite people across the globe.”

What Is Playing for Change?

Founded in 2002, Playing for Change has collaborated with more than 1,000 musicians from over 50 countries, highlighting talents from all walks of life. Over the years, the project has attracted contributions from rock legends including Bono, Keith Richards, Jackson Browne, Tom Morello, David Crosby, Robbie Robertson, and the Doobie Brothers, among others.

“We had the idea to travel around the world, record different musicians playing their own songs, interview them about how music perseveres through struggles, and then connect them with the songs around the world,” co-founder Mark Johnson explained to ABC News in 2009. “The idea is to show people enough different cultures using music to uplift themselves, so that we can see the connections we all have.”

By blending classic rock with global collaboration, the new “Riders on the Storm” video serves as a reminder of music’s enduring power to cross borders and bring people together — a mission that Playing for Change continues to champion.
