The creative genius of The Beatles was so great that it made it incredibly easy to forget that at their core, they were 4 young men who at one time, really loved playing music together. This rare footage of the Fab 4 rehearsing ‘Hey Jude’ at Abbey Road Studios is a testament to that fact; they’re so young, yet their career has taken them to some pretty awesome – and strange – places by this point! The footage features a rare, behind the scenes look at how ‘Hey Jude’ was recorded.

‘Hey Jude’ was recorded over the course of two very, very long nights at Abbey Road studios. The recording session also functioned as a rehearsal, as the band planned to record the final version at another studio.

From John Lennon messing about on a piano, laughing while trying to sing the song’s signature “na, na, na” part, to Paul McCartney struggling to find the right note after a brief break, and George Harrison sitting with their producer George Martin during playback while Ringo is as dependable as ever behind his kit, there’s quite literally something here for every devoted Beatles fan!
