Pete Townshend’s Life Changing Social Comment Through “My Generation” LIVE | Society Of Rock Videos

THE Generation

“We’d like to play a song, which kinda, is our…’we knew we were going to come back and do it’ and this is kind of our hymn. It’s a song about you and me, we’re getting a bit old now. A song called My Generation.“- Pete Townshend

This is a direct quote from the one and only Pete at the 1969 Woodstock performance that The Who wowed the crowd with, back in the great times.

Fun Fact: Pete Townshend wrote this on a train ride from London to Southampton on May 19, 1965 – his 20th birthday

In this video you see shadowed body parts flailing about, inspired and compelled to sway to the transcendental beat brought on by The Who‘s Pete Townshend during his undeniably epic solo accented with the bone chilling vocals coming from lead singer Roger Daltry’s mouth.

“So, so…looong… So…”

As Pete trashes and unplugs his guitar leaving a distinct, choral interlude, the crowd goes crazy begging for more Who

+ My Generation Lyrics +

People try to put us d-down (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
Just because we get around (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
Things they do look awful see-see-cold (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
I hope I die before I get old (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

Why don’t you all f-fade away (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
And don’t try to dig what we all s-s-say (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
I’m not trying to cause a big s-s-sensation (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
I’m just talkin’ ’bout my g-g-g-generation (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

Why don’t you all f-fade away (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
And don’t try to d-dig what we all s-s-say (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
I’m not trying to cause a be-big s-s-sensation (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
I’m just talkin’ ’bout my g-g-generation (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

People try to put us d-down (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
Just because we g-g-get around (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
Things they do look awful see-see-cold (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)
Yeah, I hope I die before I get old (Talkin’ ’bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby
