Through a video posted in TikTok, the former Journey singer Steve Perry gave his fans a glimpse of his upcoming holiday song “Maybe This Year.”
The short video started with a greeting from Perry himself, saying, “Hello, everyone. I’m Steve Perry, and this is my recording studio,” “And these are my holiday lights, and these are my holiday assistants,” he continued while showing his colorful lights and some stuffed toys in his mini studio.
The singer said a few lines before started singing some of the lyrics from his new track in a cappella tune. Perry stated, “And I’m only wishing one thing for each and every one of us, from the bottom of my heart, I swear,” “Maybe this year we can try holding on to our love,” Perry reached the microphone in front of him before repeating the phrase “maybe this year.”
Perry’s been uploading previews of his new holiday tune for weeks now. He even posted on Twitter saying, “Regarding the Holidays, Maybe This Year?” last September 9. Another tweet with a hand drawn sketch, along with the caption: “Maybe This Year one NEW SP original Holiday song, plus one more, could be coming!” was posted two weeks later.
For over 25 years, the former Journey singer chooses his public appearances very carefully and he has not toured for the past years. It seems that the holiday season is the only inspiration of Perry to do music again.
Only last year, he released an album, The Season, which is basically a collection of classic holiday songs that he made covers with. It is entirely made up of his reimagined versions, but neither of the songs are his original. Thus, a new holiday song this year would mark his first new material since 2018. The release date of “Maybe This Year” is yet to be confirmed.
