Pearl Jam launched their tour on May 4 with an unexpected mishap involving Mike McCready, who took a tumble offstage during the show in Vancouver.

McCready’s Onstage Mishap: Tumble in Vancouver

As the band tore through their set at Rogers Arena, McCready was in the midst of a solo during the final song before the encore, “Porch,” when he misstepped and fell off the stage. In a fan-captured video, McCready appears to be heading towards a lowered section of the stage but misses the steps, disappearing momentarily into darkness. Despite the fall, he managed to continue playing his guitar solo flawlessly, with only the neck of his guitar visible to the crowd until he was helped back to his feet.

Although the fall likely caused some discomfort, McCready showed no signs of injury as he continued to move around the stage energetically for the remainder of “Porch” and returned for the encore, comprising eight songs.

Anticipating Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter World Tour

Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter World Tour is now in full swing, with another performance scheduled at Rogers Arena in Vancouver tonight, followed by a show at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon on May 10.

The opening night of the tour saw the band heavily incorporating tracks from their latest album, Dark Matter, with nine out of the 11 songs from the album making it into the setlist. This focus on newer material is consistent with their previous shows, as evidenced by their 2020 tour following the release of Gigaton, which featured six songs from the album.

Interestingly, one notable absence from Saturday’s setlist was “Even Flow,” a song that has been a staple of Pearl Jam’s live performances, with 906 plays over the years. The decision to omit “Even Flow” from the setlist marks a departure from their usual repertoire and reflects the band’s evolving approach to their live shows.
