The trailer for the David Bowie biopic titled “Stardust” has just been released. Starring actor and musician Johnny Flynn as the legendary rocker, the story follows Bowie on his rock ‘n roll journey. He travels across the US, hoping to finally get his break.
Unfortunately, there are no David Bowie songs featured on the film. And even Bowie’s estate and family aren’t giving it their seal of approval. His son Duncan Jones didn’t give it his blessing and confirmed that this project is unauthorized.
The first clip was released back in April and later premiered at the San Diego International Film Festival. The UK screening took place on October 28 at a socially-distanced opening night gala in London. It’s set to be released in US theaters and streaming platforms on November 25.
Flynn wrote and recorded an original song titled “Good Ol’ Jane” which he wanted to sound like “an early, lost [Bowie] song that people haven’t heard.” He further explained to NME, “This was the first time I was writing a song as the character. You can hear BBC sessions from this period and live radio sessions and you can tell what an influence early Velvet Underground records were, he was often trying to copy Lou’s voice as well.”
