It Was Quite A Moment For Heart

While there are countless cover versions of Led Zeppelin’s musical masterpiece Stairway to Heaven, it’s undeniable that Heart’s performance at the Kennedy Center in 2012 is the only one that truly rivals the original. In that video, Heart got their stamp of approval especially since Robert Plant was visibly moved by their rendition – not an easy thing to accomplish, for sure.

In a recent appearance on the Eddie Trunk Podcast, Heart’s Nancy Wilson talked about what happened at the event.

“It went off really great. Afterward, the Zeppelin guys each came back individually,” she recalled. “[John Paul] Jones was like, ‘Wow, you did a great job.’ And Robert Plant goes, ‘Whoah, I learned to just hate that song because everybody murders it – but you did it justice. Way to go!’”

And as for guitarist Jimmy Page, he told her: “You played that great; just lovely.”

What made it extra special was the fact that Jason Bonham, son of the late Bonzo, was part of the band on stage.

“He was the little kid that grew up with them, like his uncles,” she added. “So I’m sure that was a lot about the emotional reaction that they got, that they were surprised to have, during that song.”
