Rick Allen, the drummer for Def Leppard, was attacked earlier this week outside his Fort Lauderdale hotel, and is now “focused on healing.”

The musician who was having a break last March 12 after Def Leppard performed in Florida, was assaulted and knocked to the ground by Max Edward Hartley, who is only 19 years old. According to a police report, the assault caused Allen to “strike his head on the ground, inflicting damage.”

Allen then updated the fans after the incident by tweeting:

“Thank you everyone for your overwhelming support. Your love and prayers are truly helping. My wife Lauren was thankfully not with me at the time of the incident. We are together now, and working on recovering in a safe space.”

The drummer continued:

“We are focusing on healing for everyone involved,”“We ask you to join us in our effort to move from confusion and shock to compassion and empathy. We understand this act of violence can be triggering for so many people.

“To all of the fans, veterans, and first responders in our global community we are thinking of you all.”

He noted:

“Together with love, we can all get through these difficult times.”

Two counts of violence, four counts of criminal mischief, and abuse of an adult who is aged or disabled are among the charges brought against Hartley. Def Leppard, meanwhile, currently enjoying their vacation from touring and will be back on the road in May.
