The Stuff Nightmares Are Made Of

Normally a thundering track with an eerie sounding bass line, Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” takes on a new life as something far more sinister and dreamy sounding when put into the hands of Colorado based folk group, SHEL. Comprised of sisters Sarah, Hannah, Eva, and Liza Holbrook, SHEL’s breathy take on this Metallica classic made headlines last week when the cover surfaced, and it’s easy to see why listeners everywhere can’t seem to get enough of it.

Fun Fact: “Enter Sandman” is among Metallica’s most-played songs, having been performed live by the band 1,133 times, behind only “For Whom the Bell Tolls” (1,278), “One” (1,297), “Seek & Destroy” (1,369), “Creeping Death” (1,389) and “Master of Puppets” (1,439).

Where Metallica roars, SHEL whispers for this sinister little lullaby, making you feel both intrigued and more than a little uncomfortable as the song builds in intensity and ends in something dreamy and strange. As far as Metallica covers go, this is one of our absolute favorites and we’re sure you’ll love it just as much – check it out in the footage below!
