An Interesting Role For Him
After winning an Oscar award for Best Actor, it might seem like Rami Malek’s future roles will forever be in the shadow of his portrayal of Freddie Mercury. However, Malek just revealed that he drew inspiration from the late rocker for his supervillain role in the upcoming James Bond movie No Time To Die.
He will play as Safin – Bond’s latest adversary in the film’s 25th installment. This will also be Daniel Craig’s final appearance as the iconic spy.
Speaking to Empire magazine, Malek said: “If I went in there and tried make a carbon copy of someone, what joy or fun would that be for anybody? I guess that may be a lesson I learned from Mr. Mercury. If it’s not original, then why bother? I’ve pocketed some things from some of my favourites. But I tried to every day imbue this character with something I thought made sense for the character, but might also at the same time be shocking and unnerving.”
He even teamed up with the voice coach he worked with for Bohemian Rhapsody so he could create the perfect accent suitable for Safin, “I wanted to create something that we couldn’t quite peg from any particular part of the world.”
No Time To Die will be out in cinemas this April 2, 2020. Check out the trailer below.
