He Likes Comedy
Last month, Paul McCartney was interviewed on the Adam Buxton podcast as he promoted his latest album McCartney III which came out on December 18. Apparently, he’s a fan of daytime TV shows and he went on to name some of his favorites. And elsewhere in the interview, he shares his favorite snacks and discusses fellow rock legends like Bob Dylan and late Beatles bandmate John Lennon.
McCartney said, “What happens is I go to the gym most mornings and thereโs always a TV programme on and Homes Under The Hammer is normally whatโs on at the time I go, so I watch that. Now Iโm moving around. Big favorite at the moment is American Pickers, itโs great, itโs two guys Mike and Frank who go around America collecting for their antiques shop and they go to all these places, all these barns where thereโs all โ what they call it โ rusty gold and itโs great, they find it, they bargain. Itโs just a good show, theyโre fun guys. Some of the stuff they find is quite amazing. So I like that.”
He also likes “Storage Hunters, thatโs quite funny, thereโs an American version thatโs quite funny and an English version, there are great characters on it and it is interesting to see whether theyโve found something good in the bin or whether itโs a complete washout. This shows my mental age, but I like that sort of stuff. Itโs not too challenging and I think itโs interesting.”
Plus, he enjoys comedy too because really, who doesn’t? “I love comedy. I watch it on TV, you know Live From The Apollo, you see wonderful people on that. Then I like shows like Mock The Week and Have I Got News For You, I like those shows. And I like Would I Lie To You? I think thereโs some very funny people on that, Lee Mack is a very talented boy. You sit at home with your friends or family and you say, โHeโs lying, heโs lyingโ!โ Thatโs the kind of thing I like.”
He was then asked if he’d like to appear on the show and he replied with, “That is an interesting question. Most people who watch that show think โcould I lie with a straight face?โ It would be fun to lie. The ones I like are the double bluffs where it is so ridiculous. He looks like he is lying but in the end it is true. I probably wouldnโt risk it (going on) but I havenโt been asked, so that is a factor.”
