Paul McCartney – “Let Me Roll It” Live
My Heart Is Like A Wheel!
“Let Me Roll It” is a single by Paul McCartney and Wings released on February 15, 1974 for their third studio album “Band on the Run.” Since its release, McCartney has made this song a staple in his concert repertoire. He has also included it in several live albums.
Some critics saw the song as a pastiche of John Lennon’s sound, particularly the riff and the use of tape echo on the vocals. McCartney, however, didn’t intend the song to be a pastiche of Lennon. He did say the vocal “does sound like John… I hadn’t realised I’d sung it like John.”
The title of this track has been inspired by George Harrison. McCartney penned the lyrics while he was in a farm in Scotland. Some critics also pointed out the similarity of a certain guitar riff between this song and that of John Lennon’s “Beef Jerky.”
Although the song’s similarities to Lennon’s debut solo album were said to be coincidental, the use of echo, heavy bass and stinging lead guitar made such comparisons inevitable.
We just love Paul’s musical versatility!
