Paul McCartney – “Every Night” Live
Tonight I Just Wanna Stay In!
During one holiday while in Greece, Paul McCartney penned the lyrics to the song “Every Night.” It was recorded on February 22, 1970 and released on April 17 of the same year. However, the first time he performed this live was a few years later — on November 23, 1979 in Liverpool. This love song was inspired by Linda McCartney and was a highlight in his debut solo album.
According to James McGrath, the last line of the song, “But tonight I just wanna stay in / And be with you,” is the key to the song, in that it “quietly challenges the uneasy relationship between rock and domesticity.”
Linda also provided some of the vocals during the chorus of the song. Paul, on the other hand, doesn’t just play the acoustic guitar but also the bass and drums. Some cover versions were recorded by Billy Joe Royal, Odetta, Claudine Longet, Phoebe Snow, and Richie Havens just to name a few.
Like “Maybe I’m Amazed”, it revealed how Linda had become a stabilising influence upon him.
It’s amazing that Paul McCartney’s songs have really interesting back stories!
