For more than three decades, Ozzy Osbourne carried a signature scent that quietly became part of his larger-than-life persona. Now, that fragrance—Czech & Speake’s No. 88—has resurfaced in a limited-edition release that sold out almost as quickly as it was announced.

Unveiled on April 29, the London-based fragrance house introduced a special batch of the cologne long associated with Osbourne. Despite its prominence in his daily life, the singer famously kept the name of the scent under wraps, adding an air of mystery to what many around him recognized instantly.

“The moment he smelled it, he said: ‘I’d like to smell like this for the rest of my life.’ And he did. Every concert. Every city. Every room he walked into,” the brand shared in its announcement.

A Fragrance Woven Into Rock History

The limited-edition No. 88 arrives in a black bottle with purple foil, a presentation befitting the gothic aura of the Black Sabbath frontman. Priced at €250 (approximately $370 USD), each purchase also contributes €50 to Cure Parkinson’s—a cause previously supported through proceeds from Black Sabbath’s “Back to the Beginning” concert.

According to its official description, the scent blends a fresh, woody opening of bergamot with floral notes of geranium, rose otto, cassie, and frangipani, before settling into a dry base of vetiver and sandalwood—an intricate composition that mirrors Osbourne’s enduring appeal.

Inside each box, a personal message from Sharon Osbourne offers a glimpse into how the fragrance became part of Ozzy’s identity:

“I don’t know exactly how long Ozzy wore No. 88 but I’m sure it was at least 30 years. I remember discovering it like it was yesterday… I went into the shop at Jermyn Street because I was looking for bathroom accessories. I piled up some samples to take home to Ozzy and I’ll never forget that as soon as he smelled it, he said to me, ‘I’d like to smell like this for the rest of my life!’”
“And he did! Everywhere he went, he was known for it. Everyone talked about it — his friends, his bandmates, his business colleagues, everyone — and they would always say how good he smelled.”

The Scent That Lingered

Though Osbourne guarded the identity of his cologne for years, a select few were given rare access. Among them was Jose Mangin of SiriusXM, who received a bottle directly from the singer.

Mangin later described the fragrance’s unmistakable presence in an interview with Loudwire:

“Ozzy smells very distinct… It stays in the room he leaves. You can tell 30 minutes later — Ozzy was here.”

He also recalled Osbourne’s insistence on secrecy at the time:

“[Ozzy] was like, ‘Do not post this, do not show anybody what box this is or what this is, but this is for you.’”

With the limited release now sold out, No. 88’s legacy only deepens—less a simple fragrance and more an invisible extension of one of rock’s most enduring icons.
