Randy Rhoads is finally getting the recognition he deserves and no one is more happy for him than bandmate Ozzy Osbourne.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame made headlines these past few days for snubbing metal legends but perhaps one of the great things about their recent announcement is for Rhoads to be honored with the Musical Excellence Award. This year’s induction ceremony will take place on October 30 at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio.
In a new interview with Premiere Radio Networks’ Sal Cirrincione, Osbourne said: “I’m so happy that Randy’s genius, which we all saw from the beginning, is finally being recognized and that he is getting his due.”
“I only wish he was here in person to get this award and that we could all celebrate together,” he continued. “It’s really great that Randy’s family, friends and fans get to see him honored this way.”
Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello also expressed his excitement with a post on social media. He captioned a photo of Randy Rhoads with, “A peerless talent who fused timeless riffs, solos of ingenious beauty and emotional fire, and a catalog that melds technical mastery and raw rock power, it was Randy’s poster that was on my wall when I was practicing 8 hours a day.”

Rhoads had a short-lived career following a tragic plane crash that claimed his life at the young age of 25. Even so, he left such a rich and stunning legacy in music and is widely recognized as one of the greatest and most influential heavy metal guitarists of all time.
