It Would Take Around 18 Months For A Vaccine To Be Available

Even after the coronavirus crisis, life won’t get back to normal as we know it. Without a doubt, the world will not be the same following this pandemic. The concert and touring industry already lost billions of dollars because thousands of shows and festivals have been canceled. And now it seems like concertgoers aren’t too keen to watching live performances until there’s already a proven COVID-19 vaccine.

In a recent Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll, only 40% of Americans plan to go to sports events, concerts, movies and amusement parks should they reopen before a coronavirus vaccine becomes available. Another 40% are willing to wait even if it would take over a year for anyone to successfully develop the said vaccine. The rest of the respondents are either not sure or may never attend any of the public events ever again.

According to sports economist Victor Matheson, “Just because people say we can go back, until people feel fully safe… they aren’t going to go back.”

He added, “We go to games for entertainment and you’re not going to be very entertained if you’re not worrying about who the next player to bat is and instead worrying about that person who just coughed two rows down.”

Reuters also reported that there are currently over 100 potential vaccines currently in development but may take 18 months for it to be available in the market.
