Journey Guitarist Lays His Cards On The Table

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is over, and the fanfare surrounding this year’s inductees has died down – except for the part where it hasn’t as far as Journey is concerned. One of the most anticipated events of the year saw the arena rock legends inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and with them, former lead singer Steve Perry, who against all odds appeared onstage with his former bandmates last Friday night and even met with current Journey singer Arnel Pineda, giving the 49-year-old frontman his full vote of confidence.

Emotions ran high in the days leading up to the big event and while the Steve Perry question was answered, there was one question burning on the lips of fans around the world: how does guitarist Neal Schon actually feel about seeing his former bandmate after all these years?

The answer: “The whole event was amazing. I really loved seeing Steve Perry, who I haven’t seen in a long time, since we did the Hollywood Walk of Fame [in 2005],” gushed Schon, who hung out in Perry’s dressing room before taking the stage with Journey.

The reunion wasn’t nearly as awkward as Schon, Perry, and Journey had initially feared; after seeing photos of the pair together and listening to the music they spent years making together, Neal and Steve picked up like they’d left each other mere minutes ago and the joy brought on by finally being in the same room after years apart trumped any awkwardness or discomfort either one may have been anticipating.

So what’s next for Neal and his old friend Steve, now that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame hubbub is over and done with? Nothing musical aside from listening to each other’s upcoming solo albums, but Steve’s got something even better in mind.

“Coffee is way overdue for us.”
