Who Knew Marbles Could Make Such Sweet Music?
A moment of silence for the creative genius behind this marble machine. It’s an excellent piece and it shows true artistry in every way.
We’ve seen ludicrous, odd and unusual musical instruments in the past — think glass harmonica, hornucopian dronepipe, friction harp, and probably one of the weirdest which is Badgermin (Google it up, we’d like to see the surprise look on your face when you it lol) — but nothing can prepare you for what you’re about to see. Martin Molin created an elaborate hand-cranked music box that uses 2,000 steel marbles and 3,000 wooden pieces to power the kick drum, bass, vibraphone and cymbal. This is simply a work of art. It’s beautifully carved and the entire mechanism is absolutely impressive. It took him 14 months to finish building this complex machine and it’s mind-blowing. He chronicles the entire construction process in his YouTube page and it’s delightful to watch him put the pieces together.
Crazy contraption? Check. Undeniably beautiful tune? Double check.
