A long-lost song that featured George Harrison and Ringo Starr has just been unearthed in a loft and released on November 11. Titled “Radhe Shaam”, it was written and produced by broadcaster Suresh Joshi in 1968. Harrison was on guitar and Starr on drums, along with Indian classical musician Aashish Khan.

The track was discovered in Joshi’s home during the lockdown and was first played on November 10 at the Liverpool Beatles Museum and aired on BBC Radio Merseyside.

It was recorded at Trident Studios in London where The Beatles were working on “Hey Jude.” Joshi was in the same building to work on the music for a documentary called “East Meets West.” It was him who introduced Harrison to Ravi Shankar.

“Time had gone on,” Joshi said, “[then] The Beatles were breaking up and had various problems so no-one wanted to [release the song].” Joshi called the lockdown a “blessing in disguise as we had nothing to do.” Joshi’s friend Deepak Pathak sent the master tape to music producer Suraj Shinh who then restored and mixed it.

“The song itself revolves around the concept that we are all one, and that the world is our oyster,” Joshi explained. “[That is] something that we have all realised during this pandemic.”
