Jane Slagsvol, who was married to Jimmy Buffett for 46 years, wrote a heartfelt letter expressing her gratitude to their community. She penned this emotional letter just over a week after her husband’s legendary passing on September 1st.

“These recent years have been incredibly tough for both Jimmy and me, and we certainly aren’t ones to shy away from challenges,” Slagsvol said at the beginning of her letter. “Jimmy stated that ‘Growing old is not for sissies.'” She continued by thanking everyone who helped their family through Buffett’s illness and demise. Slagsvol continued:

“Everywhere we went, at arenas, events, and even in hospitals, we were surrounded by love. There is a whole world of people I want to thank for the incredible kindness you showed us.”

Slagsvol’s Message of Thanks and Gratitude

In her letter, Slagsvol expressed gratitude to the medical professionals, staff, and friends who cared for Buffett during his illness. She mentioned that the medical team provided hope even during the most hopeless moments, and praised them for their honesty, bravery, and empathy.

She also had words of appreciation for the staff who had been part of Buffett’s journey over the years, noting that they had made their lives better in countless ways. And she extended her thanks to their community of friends, reminiscing about the joy Buffett found in their company during dinner parties. She highlighted the affectionate atmosphere they created, which surrounded them like sunshine.

One of the most significant expressions of gratitude in her letter was reserved for Buffett’s fans. Slagsvol credited them with creating the carefree, musical joy that her husband personified. She noted how much Buffett appreciated the community of fans and how their support was a source of inspiration and comfort for her family.

In the final part of her message, Slagsvol thanked her family, including their three children and Buffett’s sister LuLu, who had also paid tribute to him after his passing. She expressed her deep love and gratitude to them, emphasizing their importance in her and Jimmy’s lives.

Buffett’s Final Message of Love and Joy

As she concluded her message, Slagsvol remembered Buffett as a beacon of positivity and kindness. He had a constant smile on his face, even while he was sick, and she characterized him as being full of love and excitement. She shared how he had looked for the light until the very end.

She mentioned one of his late-career songs, “Bubbles Up,” which embodied his spirit of love and joy. Slagsvol concluded by thanking everyone for bringing happiness to Buffett and to her.

Jimmy Buffett’s Final Album

“Bubbles Up” is part of Buffett’s upcoming posthumous album, Equal Strain on All Parts, which was completed shortly before his passing. Paul McCartney, who appears on the album, praised Buffett’s vocal performance on the track, saying, “the vocal was probably the best I’ve heard him sing ever.” The album is set to be released on November 3rd.

Jimmy Buffett and Jane Slagsvol were married for 46 years until his passing. Their wedding anniversary was celebrated on August 27th, just a few days before Buffett’s death. He passed away at the age of 76 after a four-year battle with Merkel cell carcinoma, a severe form of skin cancer.
