It’s finally happening! Jeff Beck just recently announced a release of his new full-album collaboration with Johnny Depp.

After the duo surprised their fans when they hit the stage in Sheffield, UK on May 29, they are now giving us another treat with a new album dubbed as 18. The collaborative album will feature 13 tracks and is set to release digitally and on CD on July 15, followed by a vinyl edition on Sept. 30

Beck and Depp first worked together on the Hollywood Vampires’ Rise album in 2019. Beck was the guest artist on the album by a band formed by Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry in 2012. The name came from a celebrity drinking club formed by Cooper in the 1970s, which was linked with John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Keith Moon, and Harry Nilsson.

Since then, the pair started a musical partnership that led to several projects, including a cover of John Lennon’s “Isolation,” which they previously released as a studio recording in 2020 and will also be included in the upcoming album. Beck said in a news release:

“When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity.

“We would joke about how we felt 18 again so that just became the album title, too.”

As a preview of the new album, the duo released an original music from Depp called “This Is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr,” on June 9. Beck said:

“I was blown away by it. That song is one of the reasons I asked him to make an album with me.”

Other Depp originals are included on the album as well as covers of music by the Beach Boys’ “Don’t Talk (Put Your Head on My Shoulder)” and “Caroline, No,” Motown’s “What’s Going On” and “Ooo Baby Baby” and more. Beck added:

“I haven’t had another creative partner like [Depp] for ages.

“He was a major force on this record. I just hope people will take him seriously as a musician because it’s a hard thing for some people to accept that Johnny Depp can sing rock ‘n’ roll.”
