Who Will Sit In With AC/DC?

In the wake of AC/DC’s announcement this week that singer Brian Johnson must stop touring immediately or risk permanent hearing loss, the band revealed that they’ll be rescheduling 10 upcoming dates on the U.S. leg of their Rock or Bust World Tour – and bringing along a guest vocalist for the ride.

We didn’t think anyone could ever step into the massive shoes left behind by Bon Scott, and now 3 decades later, we can’t imagine anyone stepping into Brian’s shoes, even temporarily. However, there are still a few massive voices left in the rock world capable of doing AC/DC’s classics justice, and we’ve narrowed it down to 6 singers we’d love to see fill in for Brian!

6. Steven Tyler, Aerosmith

Now, now – before you go after our heads, hear us out! The Aerosmith frontman is 67 years old and despite using his voice to take over the country music world, Steven is still capable of hitting those high notes night after night. Plus, you can’t deny that the guy is entertaining!

5. Ian Gillan, Deep Purple

Much like our friend Steven Tyler, Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan is still hitting those insane high notes night after night, taking his voice as high and hard as possible for tracks like “Highway Star” and “Into The Fire”. Still performing, in 2016, taking on AC/DC classics wouldn’t be too difficult for Ian.

4. Jim Breuer, Comedian and Lifelong AC/DC Fan

If you’ve never seen comedian Jim Breuer sing “The Hokey Pokey” as  Brian Johnson, do yourselves a favor – stop what you’re doing right now and watch it, because it’s great! We know Jim’s not a singer by trade, but he’s a great friend of Brian’s and does a killer impression of the  AC/DC singer. He even nails his stage mannerisms!

3. Leslie West, Mountain

Diabetes may have taken the “Mississippi Queen” singer’s leg, but it hasn’t taken his chops as a guitarist – or singer! One of rock’s last living legends, Leslie West has a voice big enough to handle the demands of a band like AC/DC. Plus, if we’re lucky, maybe we’d even get a guitar battle between Leslie and Angus Young!

2.Cormac Neeson, The Answer

Cormac Neeson of Northern Irish blues-rock band The Answer isn’t just an AC/DC fan – he and his band have actually toured with the guys! We don’t know if it’s all that time spent getting pointers from Brian  Johnson or that natural bluesy, whiskey soaked voice that does it, but Cormac would be a stunning choice to fill in for Brian during  AC/DC’s 10 dates without him. Here is he taking the lead on “Highway To Hell” in 2015:

1. Joel O’Keeffe, Airbourne

He’s young, he’s Australian and he absolutely rocks…wait a second, this guy reminds us of Bon Scott! Joel O’Keeffe of Australian hard rock band Airbourne is a fun choice to take over for Brian in coming weeks and months; a devoted AC/DC fan himself (because really – what good Aussie boy isn’t?), O’Keeffe’s already proven that he’s able to rock a stage in the name of AC/DC and those about to rock, sounding like himself but channeling the best parts of Brian and Bon.
