Hystory In The Making

Of all the fan bases of all the bands in the world, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s beloved Skynyrd Nation has had the unique honor and distinction of being present for some of the biggest moments in the band’s history. Good, bad, and tragic, the boys have shared their lives and most important milestones with us, and so it’s only fitting that in 2015, we got to bear witness to the very first time they played “I Need You” live. Featured on their sophomore album Second Helping, “I Need You” came to center stage for the first time during a 2015 Lynyrd Skynyrd concert in Calgary, Alberta and y’all if, like us, you’ve been waiting for nearly a half a century to hear this gem finally played live, you’re in good company and it was absolutely worth the wait!

“Thank you so much for letting us do that for you tonight!”

A slow, bluesy tune about a man wanting nothing more than to come home to the woman he loves, “I Need You” comes to life with the sweet, soulful lead vocal stylings of singer Johnny Van Zant, and supported by Honkettes Carol Chase and Dale Krantz-Rossington brings this Skynyrd classic to a whole new level. He even thanks the audience as the last note rings out for letting Lynyrd Skynyrd perform it for them, but in reality, it’s us who should be thanking them for giving us the chance to witness yet another stellar moment in Skynyrd hystory! If you missed it the first time around, relive the magic in the footage below – happy viewing!

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Pronounced ‘LÄ•h-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd & Second Helping Live’ is available now on DVD, Blu-ray and digital formats – it’s the perfect gift for the Lynyrd Skynyrd fan in your life. Buy it here on Amazon!
