Two bands “Come Together”!
The argument has lasted almost six decades. The Rolling Stones vs Beatles argument (better known as “Beatles vs Stones”), has divided music fans for many, many years. No matter what side you’re on, you hold a mutual respect for the other. Unfortunately, the only remaining Beatles alive are Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, and they don’t even tour together anymore. However, the Stones are still kicking strong, with most of the remaining members still with the group they’ve kept their relevancy to this day!
Recently, the Stones played the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California for the historic mega-concert: Desert Trip. The band played an incredible set of old time hits, deep cuts, and even debut some brand new material off of their upcoming blues album! But the highlight of the night, was when Mick Jagger told the audience they were going to do a cover, and busted out a classic from their longtime friends and rivals!
The Rolling Stones decided to surprise the 100,000+ crowd with a cover of the Beatles “Come Together!” This was the first time the Stones covered this song, and they ROCKED it! Although the original version sounds a lot better (naturally) the Stones pulled off a fantastic cover. The Stones cover was a heavier guitar, heavy version, compared to the Beatles’ original, bass driven and smoother version!
We are so happy this finally happened, because you can put it down in the rock history books! Hopefully soon, we’ll hear Paul McCartney return the favor, and bust out a cover of “Gimme Shelter,” “Start Me Up,” or “Sympathy For the Devil!” We can only hope this happens!
